bpw hONG kong MISSION STATEMENT
BPW International was founded in Geneva in 1930 by Dr Lena Madesin Phillips and colleagues, who had established its predecessor, the National Federation of Business & Professional Women (1919; USA). Today, BPW International has approximately 30,000 members in more than 100 countries across 5 continents. Since 1947, we have maintained consultative status with the UN via ECOSOC; currently, there are BPW representatives aligned with each UN agency. We also hold participatory status with the Council of Europe.
The primary purpose of BPW is the professional and economic empowerment of women, through UN advocacy and local action as well as networking, mentoring, peer support, and skills development. Global flagship initiatives include “International Women’s Day“, “Equal Pay Day” and “Women on Boards.”
